ABOUT ME
Yi-Chi Chiu
Yi-Chi Chiu is an active post-doctoral researcher specializing in Taiwan's contemporary literature and history. In 2019, she was awarded the Associate Fellow by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in recognition of her expertise in education and teaching ability in universities under UK Professional Standards Framework. In 2020, she was selected by the Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology's LIFT-TAIWN program as a member and participated in a cross-field visit to Taiwan's technology industries. She has engaged in creative writing for 15 years, published three books, and won three literary awards. Furthermore, she is experienced in digital audio and video production (YouTube, Podcast) and digital publishing (e-books, online blogs). Her expertise includes planning and organizing academic activities, characterized by prominent research awareness, critical thinking, influence and public speaking skills.

TEACHING ASSISTANT, UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER

I was a seminar leader of modern Chinese history module in the University of Manchester. The modern Chinese module starts from the late Qing dynasty to contemporary China. More than one hundred and fifty first-year students are in the class, and I took responsible for two seminar groups. There are three assignments that student have to submit, and my work is to give the mark and provide the comment by using Turnitin. Furthermore, I have to facilitate student to have sufficient discussion in the seminar, allowing them to have opportunities to share their opinions toward the historical event.

As a research assistant in the modern history department in Academia Sinica. My work focuses on building the digital database of ancient China. Academia Sinica is the national academy of Taiwan. It supports research activities in a wide variety of disciplines, ranging from mathematical and physical sciences to life sciences, and humanities and social sciences. As an educational institute, it provides Ph.D. training and scholarship through its English-language Taiwan International Graduate Program in biology, agriculture, chemistry, physics, informatics, and earth and environmental sciences.

NCKU has nine campuses which located in central Taiwan separately. It is one of the oldest university in Taiwan. Taiwanese literature department is a new raising school in the recent decade which pays attention to the history of Taiwan, Taiwanese literature, languages learning ( Japanese, Taiwan Aboriginal languages, Taiwanese dialect). It provided me a fruitful college life that I will never forget. Not only the teaching quality but also the amazing college friends.

Japanese students who were studying at Nanzan University came to Taiwan, Tainan for two months Mandarin learning. I was at the position to organize the language courses, teaching Mandarin, managing their needs at the university.

This is my third year ( 2018) in the UK. Before I came to the UK, I completed the TOEFL exam and had the High intermediate level score. After three years training for reading, listening, speaking and writing, my English level meets the advanced standard.
